I'll throw my hat in;
At least it's a manual.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:22 |

Let's be completely honest here. The least Jalop car is a moped or fixie bike.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:23 |
|
How Jalop is a Ford Ranger 4cyl with a manual?
It has RWD though...
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:24 |
|
I rent Kia Souls periodically and I like them. I would say they are far from being the least Jalop car.

My mom had a Toyota Matrix. The impreza wannabe
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:25 |

Its not even a car, automatic, but its yellow, 4.3L V6 and has four wheel drive!
I feel OPPO shame.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:25 |

Me.
2007 Focus Sedan. 2.0 Duratec 20E (emission starved). Automatic. 5 cup holders. The thing scores a -20 on the Jalopometer.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:26 |

Small Pickup, RWD, Manual... That's widely considered the most Jalop pickup available to those of us in 'Murica. I'd say it's pretty Jalop.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:26 |
|
Nah bro, a second gen xB with automatic is far less Jalop than the Soul. Ours has three pedals as well. shame the stick only comes on the base '14s
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:27 |
|
I think the general idea of Jalopnik is to appreciate bad cars as much as good cars. The excitement of driving a slow car fast and so on as long as it's a car and not a wooden hipster bike.
At least that's my personal view of it.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:27 |
|
RWD/Manual/Small Pick-Up?
Sounds pretty Jalop to me.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:27 |

I'll see your KIA and raise you my DD Matrix...
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:28 |

Wife's car. 2008 Enclave. I love it for road trips, and I don't care what any if you think. Oh, AND IT'S BROWN!!!

Fixie bikes

The Soul is a great car. Wtf you talking about?
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:31 |

If you exchange all cup holders with ashtrays you could get a positive score at least!
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:32 |
|
Stand back y'all, I got this.
No one nominated me? Really? REALLY?
At last, something I can win.
(It is a manual at least)
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:33 |
|
I like the Soul. It at least has some verve.
2008 Honda CR-V EX in glacier blue.
I win.

I also drive a beetle and I fall in love again everytime I drive it.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:35 |
|
I might have to quantify the moped...
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:36 |
|
Umm, HELLO!
At least mine's manual too.
Oh, and GIS'ing "Takuro Camry" is very helpful!
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:36 |
|
They are remarkably fun to drive. I wish they were slightly easier to work on...
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:36 |
|
I just sold my moped, and trust me, when you have to work on something that much and scrounge the depths of the internet just to find the one part that will fix it, you will learn that they are pretty Jalop...just not fast.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:38 |

I have one of these =(
However I also have one of these (in far worse condition) which I think makes up for it
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:40 |

mine is still well under warranty, hell its at the dealer now.
Looks identical to this one.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:40 |

But you've got a TRD badge and those sick two-tone wheels, brah!
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:40 |
|
We used to call those 4-door Eclipses when I worked for Mits. Besides the lack of an available manual trans, I'd say that yes, it's not very Jalop. Still a quirky cool sedan though. I like the way they look.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:41 |
|
Definitely makes up for it.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:41 |

Chevy Aveo...automatic...I don't think it can get less Jalop than that.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:41 |
|
Lol it's between this and the Matrix right now.
(disclaimer: I am not calling anyone a non-jalop here, lol).
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:41 |

And now a sticker bombed fuel door!
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:42 |

I'm so sorry... I drove an Aveo once.
Never again.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:44 |

And now I'm just curious.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:46 |

Yeah I don't remember many issues with them, except worn suspension bits and the need to keep the valves adjusted, which is old school as heck.

Nelson saying, "HA HA!"
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:48 |

The CR-V also has plastic fake chrome wheel covers. Ugh. If a car could be a Matroid, sucking out your life force through your brain, then it would be a Honda CR-V. At least the old ones had gate-style tailgates and a folding table.
And to salvage my rep, my other car is an '82 Alfa GTV6.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:49 |

2008 Malibu LS. 4cyl. 6 cup holders.
At least it's black.

I drive 2012 Jeep Liberty Jet Edition that comes with20" wheels and thing "AT" tires stock. It has also seen little to no mud.
If all goes as planned, I'll be buying a 1999 Jeep Cherokee (shout out to who needs sway bars!) this weekend and sometime in the next month, trading in the Liberty on a BRZ, so my jalopness should increase by a significant amount.

I'm going to say this as a former Kia owner. I like them well enough, but despite the cool styling they are all just kind of "meh" for me. Their gutless engines make me pass on the entire brand. If they could just have a little more power and better handling, then they would be in the lead for me.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 13:53 |

I kinda like Beetles. They're impractical and goofy looking, but everyone I see driving them has a big smile.
Until they break down.

![]() 11/12/2013 at 14:00 |

I'm going to get flamed for this, but in some ways I get the appeal of a Prius to some people. Having a car that rewards you for being efficient can be kind of satisfying.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 14:03 |
|
Where does not having a car stand on the Jalopness scale? (still saving up)
![]() 11/12/2013 at 14:04 |
|
Yeah, the 1.6 is barely enough engine for the car. If I didn't have a stick, I wouldn't be able to handle owning this car. With Eco-Mode on, it's almost undriveable.
I'm going to try a K&N Drop in to see if it helps.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 14:05 |

I don't have a car, so I declare myself the winner.
...I really don't want to be the winner.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 14:05 |

I loved the first gen xB... could never figure out how they messed up the second gen so much.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 14:06 |

haha an '82 alfa more than makes up for it.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 14:08 |

I always think back to the Top Gear test where James talks about the Fiat Panda. It's fun because you can drive it at 8 or 9 10ths and not be breaking the law. That's part of why I love the new subcompact hot hatches so much. (Abarth, Fiesta ST, Sonic)
![]() 11/12/2013 at 14:10 |
|
Here's the thing, I don't mind it. I have found how to make one fun. Dirt roads. It doesn't have the horsepower to throw you into the trees but you can get sideways! I've actually had a lot of fun it. Doesn't mean I want to keep it. But I have my silver lining.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 14:16 |

Bring it on. Haha. 2012 Nissan Versa.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 14:16 |

I guess I lose, although technically my bike is fixed because race bike, which should make it all better. I have a track bike fixie for racing on the velodrome.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 14:18 |

Anything that can be described as a "race" something is definitely somewhat jalop.
Except for a race war. Maybe not that.

A kid at my school has that car. We are both in the most exclusive club in the school. The manual transmission Ford club. There's only 3 of us.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 14:20 |

Lightweight wheels are a plus... Manual?
![]() 11/12/2013 at 14:24 |

it's not too late for those of you who want to enter this competition. you can pick up this snazzy grandpa mobile 1988 Chevrolet Nova on ebay for a steal (current bid is $710, plus $150 fee, auction ends tomorrow). it's browned out: brown on the outside and brown on the inside with brown/tweed cloth interior. and it's a manual! and it was actually owned by an old guy in Leisure World! CLICKY HERE
do it... do it.. DO IT... DO IT... DO IT... DO IT... DO IT!!!

Satisfying enough to make up for lack of sex? Doubtful.

FWD Hairdressers car, How unJalop of me
![]() 11/12/2013 at 14:34 |
|
Well, if you're like me and not getting any anyway...
![]() 11/12/2013 at 14:41 |

PHEW!! We have the 18"s that look like turbine fans. And we got a bench seat in the back instead of captains chairs (just because that was the last one on the lot).
![]() 11/12/2013 at 14:46 |
|
We also have the second row bench. We had the captains chairs in our old Suburban though. Kinda prefer them to the bench.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 14:49 |
|
That's our biggest (and only) regret on this car. We definitely should have gotten captains chairs. Might get a Tahoe next year (rapidly approaching 100k miles on the mom mobile battle wagon), will definitely have captains chairs.

Rio STI (not mine)

The Vortec S10 gets a nice pass even though it's an auto.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 15:15 |

Ha, hairdressers car
![]() 11/12/2013 at 15:41 |

Well my car is actually quite jalop, but I spend most of my time driving my dads car....
2005 Taurus, 3.0 pushrod V6, slushbox......at least it's a wagon?
![]() 11/12/2013 at 15:50 |

Incorrect. I have an '02 1.8T and it's still good fun to drive...
![]() 11/12/2013 at 15:53 |

Wat.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 15:56 |

'00 2.0. 5MT. It is fun. But most don't believe me.

Hey, I'm still 16.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 16:56 |

I drive a wait for it...
2010 Suzuki SX4
It's blue, manual 6 speed, awd, and It's basically a wagon.
If it were brown and diesel with a Turbo, it would be a Jalops wet dream.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 16:56 |
|
well it is a manual, so you get a pass
![]() 11/12/2013 at 17:43 |

actually, i drove a soul once and expected to hate it. I came away pleasantly surprised. Nice steering feel and handling on that car.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 20:08 |
|
Ever since I saw a piece in R&T (or some other magazine) about a turbo SX4, I've had a bit of a soft spot for them. I REALLY like the Swift though. Would love to have one of those.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 21:28 |

What is that? Looks like a Opel badge.
![]() 11/12/2013 at 21:32 |

Well at least the buyer can say they drive a nova, just don't mention the year
![]() 11/12/2013 at 21:34 |
|
Wow what a waste of money to do that to a rio..
![]() 11/13/2013 at 07:37 |
|
Yup. It's a manual. And the lightweight wheels save 6.5lbs per wheel. But this car still gets a lot of hate on here.
![]() 11/13/2013 at 07:54 |
|
Might be due to the interior... It can get a little sparse.
Really though, little cars like that that don't have every option box checked have their own little charm. They're light, honest, and simple. I always felt like there's something to admire there.
![]() 11/13/2013 at 15:56 |
|
Minus the Ford Ranger bit, very Jalop. Small manual pickup, very good.
![]() 11/13/2013 at 16:00 |
|
What year? Still a Daewoo vintage? *Shudder*
And dirt roads are how I got a FWD Mercury Sable Wagon sideways and then into a tree... Hundreds of times rallying that old bird through the same stretch but the One time a bear wandered into the road...
Lets just say I tapped the breaks, lost control and the choice was hit a tree or go over the cliff. I chose the tree.
![]() 11/13/2013 at 16:01 |
|
Hmmm
$860 and in good repair in and out. I gotta say NP anyway.
![]() 11/13/2013 at 17:28 |

Tree is a wise choice. But mines a 2011. I believe the first year of the non-Daewoo design. It is, however, the only one I've seen with a rear spoiler instead of the deck lid. Kinda weird.
![]() 11/13/2013 at 19:10 |

Opel Astra Bertone. Its a reasonably fun car. Except it has the rigidity of a leaf.

Silver '06 GMC Sierra crew cab w/ a 4.8 (the weakest of all LS motors), a 4 speed slushbox, and rear wheel drive. Luckily I've got a locker on the rear diff.

The key is don't buy a good car. I'm also 16 and I recently bought myself a 1978 MGB for $3000. Does it run? Not very often or very well. Is it good value? Hell no, I've already had to buy all new gaskets, a rear main seal, a new carb, and a new clutch. (Protip - Do the repairs yourself, you save so much money) Is it fun? Ohhhh yes, its got a beautiful 4-speed manual and rear wheel drive. Also its always an adventure because you never know whats gonna break when you take it for a drive. Another big perk is that chicks love it. But if you do get an older car like I did, make sure you know your shit and can fix your own problems or else shit will get expensive. Also if its British, buy a wiring diagram for your car its the best $40 ive ever spent. TL;DR I bought myself a little British shitbox as my first car and its a pain in the ass but I love it.
